This winter transfer window is typically a period of feverish speculation and possible major moves. A number of high-profile players find themselves linked with transfers away from their present teams. We examine some of the key figures who might be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward in contention, indications are a major move is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest developments suggest Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Former suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have turned their attention to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The England defender has excel for Palace despite a previous transfer to Anfield falling through. As his contract set to expire in the close season, January is the London club's last opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, such as Manchester City and several European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. However, a January exit is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Welsh winger has had starting minutes limited at Spurs this term. Although being the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun only a small number of Premier League games. Reports suggest the North London club would be willing to consider a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the region of £40 million. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

R. Neves

This Portugal midfielder might be poised for a return to the Premier League following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still only twenty-eight, and with his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams like Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the player. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spain that he is prepared to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

This experienced Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona following new manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a January exit looks increasingly probable. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

The prolific England striker has continued scoring regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling hopes of being in the England World Cup. But, securing a deal poses major hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to sell him, and his alleged huge salary make any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as admirers.

Because of FIFA regulations about playing for two clubs in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next season seems to be the sole viable outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkish forward has been in fine form for the Italian giants this term. With his current deal nearing its end, many Premier League clubs – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a big-money move this month. Newcastle reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at around £22 million.
